Plans were made.   Valentine’s day was all set.   Reservations at a Argentinian Steakhouse, Card, and Candy.   I was ready for the big red heart day.   Being excited, I shared the details of my plan with my wife the Friday before the big day.   After a few minutes she informed me that the place I had reservations at had some bad reviews, so could we look into someplace else?   Uh Oh.   The day before Valentine’s Day?   I scrambled, searching for two hours for a restaurant to replace the Steakhouse.  Realizing that most places were booked, I frantically searched down my list of restaurants until I came upon Giacomo’s Ristorante Italiano.

The had openings!  It was an early dinner time and by sheer luck we ended up with a reservation.   I breathed a sigh of relief and off we went.

I have found my favorite Italian Restaurant.

Giacomo’s is a quaint building, tucked in off the northwest corner of Wolf and Central Road’s in Des Plaines, IL.    We were greeted warmly as we entered and escorted to a table in the dining room.   White linen table cloths, Valentine’s Day decorations, and lots of happy smiling faces greeted us as we sat down.   The service was excellent and suggestions and specials were discussed at length.  The server was extremely patient as we quizzed her about food ingredients, due to allergies, and the various options on the menu.

Drinks were ordered and the appetizer we chose, Fried Mozzarella Twists, arrived from the kitchen.   Homemade pasta dough, filled with mozzarella cheese, and served with a creamy vodka sauce.    It was delightful!

Dinner selections were Cavatelli with creamy Vodka Sauce for her and for me, Cappellini Positano, angel hair pasta with scallops, shrimps, and baby clams in a fresh tomato, garlic, onion, and basil sauce.   The portions were substantial and arrived at the table perfectly cooked and ready to eat.  The pastas were firm and not overcooked and the sauces were flavorful and not overwhelming.   Both dishes were excellent and we really enjoyed them.

For dessert we chose Tiramisu and Cannoli.   Both are homemade in the restaurant.   The were outstanding.  Sweet and the perfect ending to a day where I was incredibly impressed by the restaurant luckily chosen on a whim.

So take a chance, visit Giacomo’s, you wont be disappointed!

Enjoy!
